Federal Projects
With so many innovative projects happening on campus, it is difficult to list them all here. Therefore, we have chosen just a few to highlight on this page.
TRIO Student Support Services: Project Launch - Margaret Antonio, Project Director. The project serves 160 first-generation, low-income students and students with disabilities. Extra levels of tutoring, advising, financial, and cultural support services are provided to increase student retention and success for graduation, and assistance and guidance is provided for transfer to four-year institutions. In addition to base funding each year percentage inflation increases are provided; grant aid funds are provided to assist needy students with financial crises; and technology support funds are provided to assure access and training for computer skills. This project has met its goals each year. Future funding is based, in part, on previous years of performance on goals and objectives negotiated with the Department of Education. http://www.ed.gov/programs/triostudsupp/index.html

Hispanic Serving Institutions Title V Cooperative Grant: Strengthening Student Success and Transfer through a Cooperative Partnership - Jesus Solano, Project Director. The project is divided into two areas:
- Improving student success, retention, and transfer programs, and
- Establishing a comprehensive learning outcomes and assessment effort. A cooperative partnership was established with California State University , Long Beach with a focus on improving student transfer rates.

Expected Outcomes:
Increase in success of basic skills in targeted courses,
Increase in success in science, math and English courses,
Increase in student transfer rates to CSULB,
Integration of targeted student learning outcomes assessment,
Decrease student drop out rate.

TRIO Upward Bound: Jesus Solano, Project Director. The project serves 50 students in grades 9-12 from first generation and/or low-income families. This project is a federally funded, pre-college program that helps provide motivation and academic skills to students to complete their high school education successfully, enroll in, and graduate from college. Students participate in academic courses receive tutoring, college admissions, academic and personal and career counseling. All program services are designed to assist students in grades 9-12 with academic, social and cultural skills necessary to complete a course of study at a post-secondary institution. http://www.ed.gov/programs/trioupbound.html
